I'm Back… Again.

I'm Back… Again.

So, to recap what actually happened, basically I use (or rather used) Ghost, a CMS that runs on NodeJS. XenoDyne's been through various incarnations over the years, but I've used Ghost as it's backbone for the majority of it. Up until around March of this year everything was working fine; updates were smooth enough, the software seemed like it ran well (bit on the slow side on my host I must admit but nothing too bad). Then the developers made a small number of changes to the code and all of a sudden, I couldn't update it anymore.

To date I still don't know what is wrong with it. Clearly an incompatibility with how my host's server is setup but nothing I could even begin to fix myself (assuming I ever could) because the errors I got made no fucking sense. I did reach out for help, and got none. Later the Ghost dev team released a new major version of the software and basically made it mandatory for Ghost to be running on MySQL 8 (my host uses MariaDB, a fork of MySQL that was originally a drop-in replacement but has since diverged enough for it to cause incompatibilities).

So with that, including some weird problem with Python, my server OS being left in the lurch in terms of pre-built SQLite binaries and a zero-fucks-given approach from both Ghost devs and community members, I decided enough was enough. Fuck Ghost. So I've switched to Bludit. It's taken some getting used to and everything is slightly different, and to be honest somewhat more basic (on my end at least) but I've spent the last few weeks on and off, slowly but surely configuring and importing all the old content. And here it is.

A couple of articles got the axe but they weren't important or interesting. I've still got some work to do, but I took the entire evening to do a final push and get everything running, and now I'm knackered. So I'll be fixing the rest up at a later point.
