If one of your networked computers wakes up from sleep whenever you use another one on the same network, then you're probably having the same issue I was, in which case it's a super easy fix.
Windows Update doesn't work on Windows 2000 Pro any more on fresh installs but it can be fixed.
It turned out it was all ASUS Smart Gesture's fault.
It isn't necessary nor wanted by many and in fact can be bypassed altogether.

Ultimately this is largely a pointless endeavour and may only be of vague interest to those with borderline OCD, because it's purely a aesthetic and sorting issue. But on the plus side the method I've outlined here can be adapted for use with any application that has an MSI installer.
